Nature Images

Nature Images: photography notes and practical guidance on nature & wildlife.

Nature images can be read at several scales, from a whole habitat to a single leaf. Decide which relationship gives a picture its meaning before concentrating on sharpness or unusual species.

Make a small field story

Combine a wider view of the environment with a subject view and a detail. Look for changes in colour, pattern or behaviour that connect them. Photograph from a position that leaves the habitat undisturbed.

In an edit, keep images that contribute different observations. Several close views of the same feature can become repetitive unless the sequence reveals a meaningful change.
