Visions of Earth

Visions of Earth: photography notes and practical guidance on landscape.

A broad view of the earth can be built from small, specific observations. Look for the relationship between landform, light and scale rather than relying only on a dramatic destination.

Connect scale with detail

Compare an expansive view with a close study of rock, water or vegetation. Ask whether the detail helps the viewer understand the larger place. Repeated colours or shapes can connect the two without making the sequence literal.

For a personal project, choose a limited area and revisit it in different conditions. A consistent viewpoint can reveal change more clearly than a series of unrelated locations.
